Power of the Mind Networks

Power of the Mind Networks promotes social inclusion for the public benefit by preventing women from becoming socially excluded and assisting them to integrate into society. They do this by providing a platform where people can share their lived experiences through storytelling, empowering them to find their voice. They are based at 32 Spring Lane in Wellingborough.

Oral History – Josephine Makanyara Matambanadzo

Josephine is a high-achieving, independent woman hailing from Zambia but having grown up in Zimbabwe. She was the first Black travel consultant and had a celebrated career in the industry. She has 5 children and after moving to the UK to be with them, changed careers and worked in health and social care. She is now retired and lives in Wellingborough.

Mavis Mundirwa

Mavis Mundirwa is the founder of Power of the Mind Networks. She is a highly respected community leader who advocates for the Black African Community, with a particular focus on supporting women affected by domestic abuse, people affected by racial inequality, and those going through social isolation and loneliness.

Mavis has been the recipient of many awards and honours, including the University of Northampton’s Changemaker Awards. In 2024, she was honoured to attend the King’s Garden Party at Buckingham Palace. Mavis is a published co-Author, and has compiled a book called ‘The Loneliness of Widowhood’ about the stories of grief and hope that were shared by widows from her group.
