60 Miles by Road Or Rail

Exploring Northampton and Corby’s New Town stories through intergenerational activities

In 2021 we delivered our namesake debut project, 60 Miles by Road or Rail. Taken from the title of the marketing campaign released by the Northampton Development, the project explored the legacy of Northampton’s New Town story, whereby the town’s population doubled in size at breakneck speed in the 1970s and 80s. Through a new show at Royal & Derngate, an award-winning photography project, a documentary, oral histories, co-created audio pieces, pop-up installations, an interactive exhibition and online activity, 60 Miles by Road or Rail engaged over 3500 local people and created paid opportunities for a huge amount of local freelancers, proving there really is Energy in Northampton.
